AIMIM Chief Owaisi Opposes Uniform Civil Code, Urges Opposition Parties to Show Differences to Defeat BJP
AIMIM chief and Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi recently expressed his party’s opposition to the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). He stated that the UCC is a political exercise aimed at diverting attention from crucial issues such as poverty, unemployment, and inflation. Owaisi made these remarks while submitting his party’s response to the Law Commission along with retired judge Gopala Gowda in Hyderabad.
Owaisi criticized the timing of the UCC proposal, pointing out that it coincides with general elections. He accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of raising the issue to polarize the electorate ahead of the polls. He argued that the UCC would eliminate diverse customs and traditions, and mentioned that tribal communities in various parts of the country are already opposing it.
Challenging Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Owaisi dared him to visit Adilabad in Telangana and explain the implementation of the UCC to the Gond community. He also called out the Chief Ministers of Goa and Assam, urging them to remove the uniform civil laws in their respective states and implement the UCC.
Owaisi criticized Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan for praising the UCC, stating that as a governor, he should not show favoritism towards any government and should instead remain neutral. He even suggested that Khan should resign from his position and officially join the BJP.
Furthermore, Owaisi targeted the Congress party, noting their lack of clarity on the UCC. He claimed that their confusion sends a negative message to the country and to tribal communities.
Highlighting the need for unity among opposition parties to defeat the BJP, Owaisi urged them to differentiate themselves by not following the BJP’s agenda. He expressed disappointment that Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao was not invited to the opposition parties’ meeting, emphasizing Rao’s significance in the political landscape.
In conclusion, Owaisi reiterated AIMIM’s opposition to the Uniform Civil Code, calling it a political tactic to divert attention from pressing issues. He emphasized the importance of addressing poverty, unemployment, inflation, and other challenges facing the country.
