The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has launched its latest initiative – Bharath Cycle Design Challenge (BCDC). The competition aims to raise awareness about the importance of physical activity for human well-being and the environment on World Bicycle Day.
The BCDC aims to foster innovation and creativity in cycle design and manufacturing by promoting sustainable transportation and tackling the unique challenges that different groups of people face in India. The event hopes to generate solutions for a greener and healthier society by inviting participants to design affordable, eco-friendly cycles tailored to the Indian market.
The BCDC is open to interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary teams and encourages participants to work with industry partners and experts to enhance their designs. The competition centres around two themes; Commute Cycle and Cargo Cycle, each having subcategories of EV/Non-EV.
The four-stage process of the competition includes Concept Development (June 3 – July 15), Prototyping (August 1 to August 31), Testing and Evaluation (September 1 – September 30), and the Grand Finale, where prototypes will be showcased on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 at New Delhi.
The competition prioritizes sustainability, ergonomics, aesthetics, and maintainability when designing rickshaws/bicycles with subcategories of EV/Non-EV.
Those wishing to participate can find additional details and the calendar of events on the AICTE homepage: www.aicte-india.org. It is a significant step towards creating a more sustainable future by promoting eco-friendly cycling and reducing carbon emissions.
