Dell Technologies Predicts AI Integration Triumph by 2024

Dell Technologies has forecasted that artificial intelligence (AI) will play a pivotal role in integrating various emerging technologies by 2024. This integration is expected to include advanced hardware, edge devices, and cybersecurity, with the aim of bolstering business transformation. During an online roundtable discussion titled Visions: 2024 and Beyond, John Roese, Dell Technologies’ Global Chief Technology Officer, shared this vision and emphasized the convergence of quantum computing and generative AI within the next five years.

Roese predicts that by 2024, the AI era will shift from theoretical to practical, as generative AI dialogue moves from theory to practice. This transition will involve a shift from building training infrastructure to focusing on inference infrastructure, which involves utilizing trained AI models to make predictions, decisions, or generate outputs based on input data. However, this practical application of AI will also bring about security concerns, particularly related to the risk of data-trained model theft.

As AI integration progresses, Roese highlighted two significant shifts. Firstly, the economic discussion surrounding AI projects will shift from the cost of data training to the overall cost of operation. Secondly, enterprises will transition from a broad AI experimentation approach to a top-down strategic focus, prioritizing a few generative AI projects that have the potential to truly transform their businesses.

Dell also anticipates improvements in the enterprise generative AI supply chain and ecosystem by 2024, particularly in the semiconductor ecosystem where a wider choice of graphic processing units will be available. Additionally, there will be a growing availability of closed- and open-source models and tools to assist enterprises in implementing generative AI. Importantly, Roese emphasized the need for the development of security architecture around inference infrastructure, highlighting the significance of implementing a zero trust approach to ensure authorized behavior and prevent unauthorized access.

Roese also predicts that most AI usage will occur where data exists, which is primarily outside traditional data centers and instead in sensors, actuators, manufacturing environments, and retail stores. Generative AI systems function by assessing the degree of probability to deduce the correct answer, and while conventional computers may be inefficient for such probabilistic activities, Roese emphasized the potential of quantum computers in solving probabilistic and optimization problems. With the affinity between AI and quantum computing, Roese foresees increased intertwining of the AI and quantum ecosystems in the near future.

In related news, the Thai PBS World Forum focused on AI and enabled an exchange of perspectives with regional media organizations to shape the future direction of mass media. This platform facilitated discussions on harnessing AI for the betterment of the media landscape.

The future of technology integration appears promising, with AI at the forefront of driving advancements and enhancing various sectors. Dell Technologies’ predictions provide insights into the anticipated achievements and challenges as businesses continue to evolve in the ever-changing technological landscape.
