OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman, met with India‘s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, to discuss the potential for AI in India‘s tech ecosystem, highlighting the significant opportunity for growth, particularly among the youth population. During their meeting, Altman spoke about the need for global regulation in AI to prevent negative consequences from arising, but highlighted that OpenAI currently does its own self-regulation. Altman also expressed his plan to fund and support Indian startups. India‘s IT industry and vast amounts of available data provide tremendous potential for AI-based utilities, which are predicted to contribute an additional $957 billion to India‘s economy by 2035. Despite fears of job cuts due to the evolution of AI, the sector’s current growth rate in India is estimated at around 20-25%.
