An Afghan national has been arrested at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) for travelling on forged Indian documents. Esmat Khan, also known as Anwar Khan, arrived at the international terminal and was caught with fake Indian documents including a passport, Aadhaar, pan card and driving licence. Officials say he obtained the documents by fraudulent means, which is now being investigated.
An FIR for the case reveals that Khan arrived from Kabul, Afghanistan on May 24, 2021, and subsequently tried to cheat Indian immigration by submitting fake documents. He had used his Afghan passport to enter India in 2017 and had now been caught attempting to enter the country illegally.
A case has been registered under sections 419, 420, 468 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code, as well as the Passport Act and Foreigners Act at the IGI police station.
