The Bombay High Court has given Retrophiles, the producer of the upcoming film Adipurush, the green light to proceed with the release of the film on June 16. This comes after VFX company Trishul Media Limited had filed an intellectual property suit against Retrophiles, seeking credit for their animation and visual effects work on the film. Trishul had approached the court to request a stay on the film’s release, claiming that Retrophiles had refused to credit them for work on four scenes in the movie.
The interim application submitted by Trishul stated that they had been doing work for Retrophiles for some time and were regularly paid for it. However, Retrophiles started delaying payments, leading to a dispute. The VFX company alleged that Retrophiles refused to mention their name in the credits for the Adipurush movie, which the application stated was a breach of an earlier agreement.
During the hearing, Trishul’s lawyer, Abhinav Chandrachud, said that his client only sought credit for their work and their name mentioned in the film’s credits. In response, Retrophiles’ lawyer, Ashish Kamat, assured the court that Trishul’s name would be credited in the film and presented a snapshot of the film roll as evidence.
After the VFX company’s request was satisfied, they no longer pressed for a stay on the film’s release. Retrophiles will now proceed with the release of Adipurush on June 16.
Adipurush is a film based on the Hindu epic Ramayana and stars actors Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan. With the court’s verdict, audiences can now look forward to experiencing the film, which promises to be a visual spectacle.
