Actor Brian Cox marks a significant milestone in his career as he celebrates 50 years on screen at the BFI Southbank in London. The 77-year-old actor, who recently recovered from COVID-19, took the stage to discuss his lengthy career in a conversation with Mark Kermode.

Last week, Cox had to withdraw from the March and Rally for an Independent Scotland in the EU event in Edinburgh after testing positive for COVID-19. However, he made a quick recovery and was able to attend the Brian Cox: 50 Years on Screen event, where he introduced a screening of the film Manhunter, in which he played the iconic character Hannibal Lecter.

Cox looked dapper in a blue blazer, paisley printed shirt, and beige chino trousers for the occasion. During the event, he praised director Michael Mann, stating that he had a great working relationship with him and described him as an extraordinary visionary.

Although Cox couldn’t make it to the rally in Edinburgh, he expressed his disappointment and stated his desire to attend the next event. Instead, he plans to film an independence video once he fully recovers from the symptoms of coronavirus. The actor’s absence was felt by the organizers of the Believe in Scotland rally, who wished him a speedy recovery.

Brian Cox’s contribution to the independence movement in Scotland has been highly regarded, and his presence at events like these always adds star quality and integrity. Despite his absence, Cox has offered to record a video for the supporters, ensuring that his voice will still be heard.

In addition to his involvement in political events, the Scottish actor is scheduled to appear at the upcoming Cheltenham Literature Festival, where he will speak alongside other prominent figures from the literary world. The festival, based in Gloucestershire, aims to promote contemporary authors in fiction through a variety of ticketed and free events for families.

Brian Cox’s 50-year journey on screen is an incredible achievement, and his recovery from COVID-19 showcases his resilience. As he continues to make a mark in both the entertainment industry and the political landscape, Cox remains an influential figure who captivates audiences through his performances and activism.
