Eligible ACT families can now apply for financial aid to cover education costs in 2024 through the ACT Government’s Future of Education Equity Fund. The fund aims to support students by providing assistance for everyday essentials such as book packs, uniforms, excursions, sports equipment and activities, as well as tuition and music lessons. Last year, the Fund helped more than 5,000 students by distributing nearly $3 million to families in need. The Education Equity Fund is available for financially disadvantaged families with students from preschool through to Year 12 in any ACT school. The amount of the one-time payment varies based on the student’s level, with $400 allocated for preschool students, $500 for primary school students, and $750 for high school and college students. Minister for Education and Youth Affairs Yvette Berry emphasized the importance of giving all children an equal chance to participate fully in their education, regardless of their background or circumstances. The goal of the Equity Fund is to alleviate financial stress for families and ensure that students can engage in school activities such as excursions, sports, and music lessons. Applications for the 2024 school year will be accepted until November 29, 2024. Families can find more information about the fund and apply online at www.education.act.gov.au/support-for-our-students/financial-and-resource-assistance-for-families.
