The Centralized Admission Process (CAP) for Std XI entry in Junior Colleges located in the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is causing the academic session to start late, according to academics who say it should be scrapped. Ravindra Fadnavis, sarvakaryavah of the Maharashtra Rajya Shikshan Sanstha Parishad, stated that the issue of the delayed session start is one of several problems with the CAP which they wish to resolve.
Within Vidarbha, the earliest date that schools and junior colleges can begin is June 26th, but colleges located outside of the city limits have the freedom to skip the CAP and take direct admissions beginning on this date. Fadnavis suggests this is due to the popularity of tuition classes in which students, especially those prepping for medical or engineering competitive exams, get much of their education from private classes which run ahead of the academic calendar of the colleges.
The Education Department is maintaining that CAP is in place as a convenience for prospective students, allowing them to apply to multiple colleges only having to fill out one form. Despite the issue of delayed start to the academic session, there have been few if any complaints from stakeholders who benefit from the process. Moving forward, authorities are looking towards solutions to this issue which minimizes the disruption of the academic year.
