ABC Again Closes 2023 as Most-Watched Broadcast News Network

ABC News has once again emerged as the most-watched broadcast news network, maintaining its ratings dominance for the 11th consecutive year. With several programs topping the charts, including Good Morning America and World News Tonight with David Muir, ABC News has solidified its position as the go-to source for news.

In a statement, ABC News president Kim Godwin expressed pride in the network’s commitment to delivering the news sought after by audiences. Godwin said, Our teams are reporting on the biggest news events of the day and also the important, often-hidden stories behind the headlines. This dedication is evident in the outstanding reporting and programming ABC News consistently produces on every platform.

Good Morning America continues to reign supreme as the leading morning newscast, holding the top spot in terms of total viewers for the 12th year in a row since 2012. Anchored by Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, and Michael Strahan, GMA has widened its lead over NBC’s Today, achieving the largest margin in eight years.

Meanwhile, World News Tonight with David Muir has maintained its position as the most-watched evening newscast for seven consecutive years. The program has claimed the title of No. 1 newscast in total viewers, adults 25-54, and adults 18-49 for four years in a row. It boasted the highest viewership among evening newscasts for all 23 weeks of 2023 and spent 36 weeks as the most-watched program of the week across broadcast and cable, excluding sports. Furthermore, World News Tonight secured the top spot among all broadcast and cable programs for 14 weeks, a record unmatched by any other show.

In addition to the success of its flagship programs, ABC News saw significant gains in 20/20. The popular newsmagazine witnessed an increase in viewership, surpassing Dateline to become the No. 1 newsmagazine on Fridays in terms of total viewers, adults 18-49, and adults 25-54. This marks the second time in three years that 20/20 outperformed its rival across all key demographics.

The View, a fan-favorite daytime talk show, clinched the top spot among all network and syndicated daytime programs and news shows for the third consecutive year. With an impressive lead in both households and total viewers, The View solidified its status as the go-to destination for engaging and insightful conversations.

Furthermore, GMA3: What You Need to Know surpassed CBS’ The Talk and NBC’s NBC News Daily in total viewership, strengthening ABC News’ lineup of daytime programming.

ABC News’ consistent performance and unwavering dedication to delivering accurate and compelling news have resulted in another resounding victory as the most-watched broadcast news network. With programs that captivate audiences and provide in-depth coverage of the day’s events, ABC News continues to lead the way in the ever-evolving world of broadcast journalism.
