The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Arvind Kejriwal, has announced its decision to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh in 2024. The State general secretary of AAP, Toko Nikam, made this announcement during a press conference at the Arunachal Press Club on Saturday. The party plans to field candidates in all 60 Assembly seats as well as both Parliamentary seats in the Northeastern state.
During the press conference, Nikam criticized the ruling dispensation and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of taking the country towards dictatorship. He expressed concern over the imprisonment of social activists who fight against wrongdoings. In response, the AAP has initiated a movement to restore the country to its core values.
Nikam outlined several crucial agendas of the party if it comes to power after the 2024 elections. The party aims to abolish various acts, including the Arunachal Pradesh District Based Entrepreneurs and Professionals (Incentives, Development and Promotional) Act, 2015, and the Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 2014. They also plan to address issues such as the APPSC paper leakage case and the Tawang church issue within six months.
Taking inspiration from the AAP government in Delhi, the Arunachal Pradesh unit of the party has promised to provide free power, water supply, education, and healthcare facilities. Additionally, they pledge to develop world-class roads in the state capital and implement all-weather roads in districts. The party also plans to promote government employees who haven’t received promotions in the past 10-20 years and regularize contingent workers who have been in their roles for over 20 years.
Other promises made by the AAP include the implementation of Lokayukta, the establishment of an independent police department to tackle drug abuse cases, the formation of two more AAPBn battalions, and the provision of a world-class treatment facility at TRIHMS. The AAP also plans to increase the wages of GBs (Gaon Burahs), erect a statue of honesty in honor of the late whistleblower Gyamar Padang, and restore the Old Pension Scheme by replacing the New Pension Scheme.
By adhering to these guidelines, the AAP aims to improve its chances of success in the 2024 elections in Arunachal Pradesh. The party’s proposals cover various issues ranging from the repeal of certain acts to the provision of free public services, ultimately aiming to address the needs and concerns of the people of Arunachal Pradesh.
