The Aam Aadmi Party teachers’ wing, AADTA, has declared a hunger strike on June 8 to protest the plight of ad-hoc professors at Delhi University (DU). AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha claims that former education minister Manish Sisodia had instructed DU Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh not to make any appointments until the formation of governing bodies in colleges funded by the Delhi government, but appointments have been made regardless. The AAP is demanding fully functional governing bodies in DU colleges and for ad-hoc teachers who have been displaced to be employed promptly. Samarveer Singh, an ad-hoc assistant professor at DU, recently committed suicide after his tenure at a DU college was not extended.
