Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray has slammed the Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government for its lack of action to tackle the waterlogging in parts of Mumbai following the onset of the monsoon. Thackeray labeled the Maharashtra government as shameless, incompetent, and corrupt while addressing a press conference. Alleging corruption in BMC, he spoke about waterlogging in the Shivaji Park area and Andheri.
Thackeray further accused the government of working only for builders and contractors and not for Mumbaikars. He criticized the absence of a people’s representative in the current government, stating that it is an unconstitutional government and they don’t even have a Mayor. The city experienced waterlogging in the Andheri area, resulting in traffic congestion and diversions.
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for Mumbai and predicted heavy rainfall in the next 4-5 days. The southwest monsoon is expected to reach the city today, as per the weather department. The Regional Meteorological Centre has also warned of severe weather expected in the next 5 days.
The monsoon had hit several parts of the country a few days back, bringing relief from the scorching heat. Meanwhile, Thackeray’s criticism of the government has sparked a debate on the effectiveness of the Maharashtra government’s disaster management plan. Some have argued that the government needs to take concrete steps to improve the situation and address the issues raised by Thackeray.
The situation in Mumbai highlights the need for better civic infrastructure and proactive measures to tackle such emergencies. As the monsoon season continues, it is crucial for the government to work towards a sustainable solution, ensuring that the citizens of Mumbai do not have to face such issues every year.
