The Indonesian Ministry of Health is providing a panic button to Hajj pilgrims who require urgent assistance, particularly those who are sick, during their pilgrimage. The panic button will be linked to three layers of support including health workers in the pilgrim areas, doctors within the group, and satellite clinics. The panic button will enable immediate action from the Hajj Service Workers (PPIH) and healthcare workers on duty. During this year’s Hajj pilgrimage, hypertension, diabetes, and lung diseases were the most commonly diagnosed illnesses among elderly pilgrims. Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, clarified the response time range for the panic button, which will be determined by factors such as the distance of the nearest post-service and workers. A heat stroke guideline has also been created as temperatures in Arafat can reach 50 degrees Celsius. The ministry will also coordinate with Saudi Arabia to provide referral hospitals for urgent cases.
