For instance, previously, Facebook rejected ads for a Holocaust movie titled Beautiful Blue Eyes, citing a policy violation related to content that includes direct or indirect assertions or implications about a person’s race. However, upon human review, these ads were eventually approved.

In another instance on Twitter, also known as X during former CEO Jack Dorsey’s tenure, the platform unreasonably censored tweets that referred to the favorite Clint Eastwood movie, Hang ‘Em High. The automated systems used for censorship failed to distinguish between posts containing hateful language and posts aiming to shed light on such content.

A prime case in point was the Trans Day of Vengeance. When users on Twitter began highlighting the organization of this event, every mention of it was eventually removed, including accounts critical of the event that faced temporary account restrictions. Once again, it became evident that the current algorithms for censorship lack contextual comprehension.
