The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in Bhopal has registered a case against five liquor contractors in Jabalpur for selling liquor at prices higher than the maximum sale price (MSP). This is a violation of the law, which the Excise Department failed to address despite reports of overpriced liquor.
To investigate, the EOW asked the district industry and commerce department and the regional directorate of civic body Jabalpur to send their gazette officers. Two officials went to different liquor shops and bought whiskey of the same brand. They found that the liquor was sold for Rs 2,280, whereas the MSP was Rs 2,149. The evidence was then handed over to EOW officials who registered a case under section 120,420 of IPC against the five traders.
The traders included in the case are Akarsh Jaiswal, Maa Narmada Associates, Sandeep Yadav, Narendra Kumar Rajak, and Aman Jaiswal. Investigations are ongoing.
This kind of activity is not tolerated by the law, and the EOW is taking action to ensure that the traders who are guilty of selling liquor at higher prices than the MSP are held accountable. It’s essential to adhere to the laws in place to protect consumers and maintain a healthy and fair market. The EOW and other departments will continue to monitor and investigate any violation of the law.
