In a troubling turn of events, a Black FedEx delivery driver who recently faced a harrowing incident involving two armed white men in Mississippi has shared that he has been fired from his job. D’Monterrio Gibson, the former driver, expressed deep feelings of disrespect after receiving an email from FedEx notifying him of his termination. This disheartening development has since sparked discussions surrounding the circumstances surrounding his dismissal and the need for justice.

Meredith Miller, the manager of global network communications for FedEx, confirmed that D’Monterrio Gibson is no longer employed with the company. However, further inquiries regarding the matter were left unanswered, leaving many questions unanswered. It is essential to note that there is a pending civil lawsuit where Gibson is being represented by attorney Carlos Moore.

Last week, a Mississippi judge declared a mistrial in the case against the father and son accused of attacking Gibson. The judge highlighted police errors, particularly the failure to provide both the defense and prosecution with a copy of a crucial videotaped police interview involving Gibson. This mistrial further compounds the issues surrounding the incident, raising concerns about justice and accountability.

Carlos Moore, Gibson’s attorney, shared a copy of the termination email with the Associated Press, shedding light on the reasoning behind FedEx’s decision. According to Moore, Gibson’s employment was terminated on July 26th after he declined a part-time, non-courier position that the company had offered him in mid-July. It remains unclear whether FedEx set a specific deadline for Gibson to accept this alternative role.

Expressing his frustration, Gibson emphasized that he cannot be rushed into returning to work. Gibson has been on worker’s compensation leave since reporting the attack to the Brookhaven, Mississippi police earlier this year. The incident, which occurred on January 24th, left Gibson unharmed physically. However, he has experienced persistent anxiety that has necessitated therapy sessions and disrupted his ability to sleep.

This turn of events has ignited concern over fairness and equality, prompting discussions about the treatment of employees, racial bias, and the importance of supporting individuals who encounter traumatic experiences on the job.
