British Doomsday Preppers Arrested in Austria for Alleged Nuclear Dirty Bomb Plot
A pair of British doomsday preppers have been arrested in Austria after police discovered a massive arsenal of weapons, including materials for making bombs, at their home. The individuals, whose names have not been released, face charges related to nuclear offences and could face up to five years in jail if convicted.
The arrest took place earlier this year in the town of Ruden, Carinthia State, Austria. Police were initially called to the property by paramedics responding to an emergency. The paramedics noticed the weapons stash and immediately alerted the authorities.
Upon entering the property, detectives found bomb-making equipment, including the explosive TNT, black powder, ball bearings, and detonators. They also uncovered a wide array of firearms, including military assault rifles and hunting rifles. The house where the individuals were living is believed to house a cult of people who are preparing for an apocalyptic event.
In addition to the British pair, a 29-year-old Austrian was also arrested and charged in connection with the alleged plot. Austrian authorities are currently searching for a fourth accomplice, a 68-year-old Austrian national, who remains at large.
The bomb-making materials discovered by the police were described as being sufficient to create nine powerful DIY bombs. The authorities also found 20 detonators and a mobile phone that they believe was intended to be used as a trigger. The individuals were unwilling to disclose their plans for the explosives when questioned by investigators.
The case is being treated as an extremely rare occurrence by the public prosecutor’s office, with spokesperson Tina Frimmel-Hesse confirming that the quantity of materials found was enough to create devastating pipe bombs. The three accused individuals are set to stand trial at Klagenfurt District Court starting on August 22.
Neighbors of the accused reported that the men lived extremely reclusive lives and showed no interest in engaging with the local community. The house they occupied was described as rundown, and the region itself is quiet and rural. It remains unclear whether the individuals were part of a wider conspiracy network or simply isolated individuals with eccentric beliefs.
The discovery of this alleged nuclear dirty bomb plot has raised serious concerns about the potential for such acts of terrorism. Authorities are emphasizing the need for continued vigilance and cooperation among law enforcement agencies to prevent any future incidents. Investigations are ongoing, with the hope of uncovering any additional information or connections to this plot.
The case is expected to garner significant attention when it goes to trial, as authorities work to shed light on the intentions and motivations of the accused individuals. The investigation serves as a stark reminder of the importance of effective counterterrorism efforts in the face of evolving threats.
