Laverne Tigers Eye Third Straight Class B State Championship as Seiling Seeks Redemption

Laverne Tigers are vying for their third consecutive Class B state championship as the new Oklahoma high school football season kicks off. Led by second-year head coach Matt Cox, the Tigers are determined to continue their dominance on the field. However, they face tough competition from other teams eager to challenge their reign.

One team seeking redemption is Seiling, who fell just short of the state title last year. Despite trailing Laverne 22-0 in the finals, Seiling managed to narrow the gap to eight points. Unfortunately, they couldn’t complete the comeback. This year, Seiling’s star quarterback Kaden Manuel returns for his senior season, providing them with another shot at the Class B crown. The Wildcats are determined to avenge last year’s loss and secure their first state football championship since 1988.

District B-1 is expected to be a hotly contested battleground once again. Laverne led the way last season, but the district is filled with fierce competitors. Balko/Forgan, Hollis, and Turpin all had strong regular seasons, although Balko/Forgan and Turpin stumbled in the first round of playoffs. With these teams in the mix, it’s hard to predict how District B-1 will unfold.

Key players to watch this season include Jud Cheatham from Enid Oklahoma Bible, who recorded impressive rushing and receiving stats last year. Seiling’s Kaden Manuel is not only a standout quarterback but also a talented basketball player. Laverne’s junior star Felix Teal is turning heads with his skills, and he has garnered attention from Oklahoma State and Oklahoma.

Several crucial matchups are on the schedule, with the potential to determine district champions. In Week 9, Seiling will face Covington-Douglas, a game that could have significant implications. Last year, Seiling dominated with a 56-8 victory, but this time around, playing at Covington-Douglas might present new challenges. Another crucial game in Week 9 is the showdown between Turpin and Laverne, which could also play a pivotal role in deciding the district title. Last year, Laverne emerged victorious in a high-scoring affair.

As the 2023 Oklahoma high school football season begins, all eyes are on Laverne Tigers as they aim for their third straight Class B state championship. However, Seiling and other formidable teams are determined to give them a run for their money. The competition in Districts 1-4 is fierce, making predictions difficult. It’s an exciting time for high school football fans, and all the teams are eager to prove their worth on the field.
