In a bid to uplift the underprivileged sections of society, Abu Metha, the advisor to Chief Minister and IDAN chairman, has launched the Zaputuo-u Welfare Fund. During a program held on Tuesday, Metha handed over documents to the Kohima Orphanage and Destitute Home (KODH).

The welfare fund aims to assist children at KODH in pursuing higher education, exposure opportunities, capacity building exercises, skill development, computer education, sports, music, arts, and other fields. The fund also seeks to support the children in pursuing their dreams and aspirations.

Metha, who had earlier promised to institute the welfare fund during his visit to KODH as a special guest during its golden jubilee earlier this year, appealed to well-wishers to contribute to the fund. The bank account for the welfare fund has been opened at the Bank of Baroda and will be overseen by a board comprising of the present mother of the home, Neibanuo, along with eminent personalities and individuals involved in social service.

The fund aims to keep alive the memory of Zaputuo-u, a pioneering personality and an illustrious figure among the Naga people, who dreamed of providing respect and a future to every child on par with everybody else. Her vision will be pursued with committed seriousness through the welfare fund.

The welfare fund, which starts with a seed money of INR 5 lakhs deposited in the account, will create opportunities for the children at KODH to pursue rewarding careers and achieve excellence in various fields. Metha was accompanied by Theja Meru, chairman of TaFMA, and Dr. Hovithal Sothu, project director of TaFMA.
