The upcoming assembly elections in Rajasthan will focus on the persona of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the most popular face of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), according to Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. Shekhawat, who is from Rajasthan and a Lok Sabha MP from Jodhpur, said the BJP’s Parliamentary Board would decide the chief ministerial candidate. He also talked about infighting in the Congress camp, groupings in the BJP, and competition with Vasundhara Raje.
Shekhawat defeated Ashok Gehlot’s son in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. He said Gehlot’s attacks against him were a result of the people’s verdict in his favour. According to Shekhawat, people are upset with Gehlot’s unfulfilled promises to farmers and the youth, exam paper leaks, and increasing crimes against women. Gehlot has not been able to implement his own government’s or central schemes properly.
Shekhawat said there was natural competition in politics but rejected talk of groupism among BJP leaders. The BJP’s objective is to defeat the Congress and bring the BJP back to power, he said.
Shekhawat believes that the BJP will form the government in Rajasthan with a historic mandate, saying the people of this nation have immense craze for PM Modi even today. The BJP Parliamentary Board will decide on the chief ministerial face, which doesn’t make any difference to a party that has the world’s most popular and competent face, according to Shekhawat.
