Police Warn of Scammers Targeting Tech-Savvy Individuals with Money-Making Schemes

Coimbatore District (Rural) police officials have reported a rise in the number of online investment scams, particularly impacting young tech sector professionals. Superintendent of Police V Badrinarayanan revealed that more than 80% of the complainants are educated young people who work in the IT sector. Despite getting good salaries, they are easily duped by scammers as they [are] looking to make some quick money. Cyber crime police inspector Ramakrishnan identified remote IT workers as especially vulnerable to the scams, which involve offers of quick and easy money, such as payments for reviewing products or sharing YouTube videos. Ramakrishnan said that scammers establish separate accounts with login credentials to give the illusion of a genuine investment opportunity, and abscond with investors’ money as soon as they attempt to withdraw funds.
