Top Scholars Awarded $20,000 Scholarships for Higher Education and STEM Pursuits
Three outstanding graduates from Kaua’i high schools have been honored with prestigious scholarships to support their pursuit of higher education and careers in STEM fields. Hope Newton, Madison Doo, and Haley Zina were recognized for their exceptional academic achievements and commitment to leadership and community engagement.
During a special reception at Puakea Grill, the Grove Farm Foundation presented Hope Newton, a graduate of Waimea High School, Madison Doo, a graduate of Kapa’a High School, and Haley Zina, another graduate of Waimea High School, each with a $20,000 scholarship. The ceremony was attended by esteemed guests, including school officials, Grove Farm executives, and community leaders.
The highly competitive Grove Farm Scholarship program is designed to support students in their educational and professional endeavors. Candidates are selected through a rigorous evaluation process conducted by high school counselors and community leaders. The recipients embody the core values of leadership, academic excellence, and community involvement.
Hope Newton, who will be attending the University of Texas, Austin, has been accepted into the university’s aerospace engineering program. Her lifelong passion for astronomy and involvement in robotics since elementary school have fueled her ambition to make a positive impact in the field of space exploration. Hope aspires to become a role model for aspiring girls in STEM fields.
Madison Doo, aspiring to be an elementary school teacher, will be studying Elementary Education at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. Inspired by a second-grade teacher who instilled a love for learning in her, Madison aims to follow in her footsteps and demonstrate to students that education can be not only essential but also enjoyable. Her unwavering dedication and resilience have helped her overcome obstacles and will undoubtedly shape the lives of many students in the future.
Haley Zina plans to pursue her studies in medical imaging technology at the Oregon Institute of Technology. Inspired by her grandfather, an emergency room physician, and her mother, a registered nurse, Haley envisions a future as an MRI technologist or interventional radiologist. She is determined to advocate for affordable healthcare, particularly for the community of Kaua’i. Already making strides toward her dreams, Haley has been a medical intern at the Hawai’i Pacific Health Wilcox Health Center.
The Grove Farm Scholarships not only recognize the outstanding achievements of these three scholars but also provide crucial financial support that will enable them to pursue their higher education and career goals.
