McKinsey & Company, a leading consulting firm, has recently unveiled an AI chatbot named Lilli, which is set to revolutionize the consulting industry. Lilli is an AI-powered search tool that provides clients and consultants with easy access to McKinsey’s extensive knowledge base.

With Lilli, clients can now ask questions and receive relevant information from McKinsey’s vast databases. The chatbot scans over 40 curated knowledge sources, including documents, interview transcripts, and expert networks spanning 70 countries. It identifies five to seven pieces of content that are most relevant to the query, summarizes key points, and provides links and even identifies experts.

Erik Roth, a senior partner with McKinsey, stated, Lilli aggregates our knowledge and capabilities in one place for the first time and will allow us to spend more time with clients activating those insights and recommendations and maximizing the value we can create. The introduction of Lilli is aimed at streamlining and enhancing the consulting experience for both clients and consultants.

During the pilot phase, Lilli was used by both clients and consultants to ensure its effectiveness. The feedback has been positive, with users incorporating Lilli into their workflow for various purposes such as preparing for client work, meetings, and presentations. The chatbot has proven to be a valuable tool for finding weaknesses in arguments, anticipating questions, and creating connections between different areas of projects.

McKinsey plans to scale Lilli across the business, making it available to thousands of colleagues by the end of the year. To ensure efficient and secure deployment, the firm has assembled a team of more than 70 experts dedicated to managing the chatbot.

The adoption of AI chatbots like Lilli is a growing trend across industries, including consulting. These tools not only provide easy access to vast knowledge bases but also help improve productivity. Enterprises are increasingly opting to build their own generative AI models to cater to their specific business requirements and safeguard sensitive company data.

McKinsey’s innovative approach to utilizing AI in the consulting industry showcases the potential for technology to enhance the delivery of professional advice and insights. With Lilli, clients and consultants can expect a more streamlined and efficient consulting experience, maximizing the value created for businesses.
