Oxford High School’s running back, Jaydon Thomas, made a triumphant return from injury, stealing the spotlight with a stellar performance during a recent game against Fort Payne. Having suffered a broken ankle last season, Thomas was eager to showcase his skills and proved that he was back and better than ever.
In the jamboree play against Fort Payne, Thomas accumulated 46 yards from scrimmage and scored a touchdown, leaving spectators in awe of his impressive comeback. Despite giving credit to his teammates for his success, Thomas’s remarkable performance did not go unnoticed.
Coach Sam Adams expressed his pride in Thomas, not only for his on-field accomplishments but also for his resilience throughout his recovery. Adams believed that if Thomas hadn’t faced any setbacks in his career, he would be a household name in the state of Alabama. With Thomas eager to prove himself, Adams predicted that he would have a standout year.
Quarterback Mason Mims, who had a stellar game himself, acknowledged the significant contributions made by both Thomas and his fellow running back, Damious Wilson. Mims commended Thomas for his hard-running style and appreciated how both running backs excelled in blocking as well.
The Oxford offense showcased its depth and talent, with players like Camare Hampton, Jayden Lewis, and Nick Richardson making impressive catches. The offensive line played a crucial role in protecting the quarterbacks, giving them ample time to make plays.
While Oxford’s first-team dominated the first half with a 21-0 shutout, the second half saw the varsity reserves and junior varsity teams secure a 7-3 victory. Coach Adams was pleased with the performance but emphasized the need to address penalties and other areas of improvement during practice.
Looking ahead, Oxford High School will be traveling to McAdory for their season opener on Friday, August 25. The team is optimistic about their prospects, with new additions like Camare Hampton providing a significant impact on offense and special teams.
Overall, Oxford’s jamboree match against Fort Payne served as a testament to Jaydon Thomas’s resilience, the team’s depth, and their determination to have a successful season.
