Syracuse Orange Football Team Aims for Bowl Game in 2023 Season

As the 2023 college football season approaches, the Syracuse Orange football team is setting its sights on securing a spot in a bowl game. The team has not achieved this feat in consecutive seasons since 2012 and 2013, making it a significant goal for the upcoming season.

According to the latest analysis from ESPN and The Athletic, the Orange are projected to be one of the top-60 teams in the country and the 10th-best team in the ACC heading into the 2023 season. ESPN’s preseason SP+ rankings place Syracuse at 55th overall, with improvements in both defensive and offensive rankings compared to the previous year.

The Orange had a promising start to the 2022 season, going 6-0 before finishing with a 7-5 regular season record and a trip to the Pinstripe Bowl. This year, the team aims to build on that success and secure a bowl game berth.

However, achieving this goal won’t be without challenges. In mid-October, Syracuse will face a tough stretch of games, including a home game against #9 Clemson, followed by back-to-back road trips to #21 North Carolina and #8 Florida State. These matchups against AP top-25 opponents will test the Orange’s mettle.

To secure a bowl game berth, the Orange will need a strong start. If they can begin the season with a 4-0 record, including a road win against Purdue, they will then need to secure at least two victories against teams such as Virginia Tech, Boston College, Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech, and Wake Forest.

Even if Syracuse starts the year with a 3-1 record, with a likely loss to Purdue, they will still need three wins in their final five games to clinch a bowl game. It will be crucial for the team to capitalize on potential victories against Boston College and Georgia Tech, as well as their final home game against Wake Forest.

One positive factor working in Syracuse’s favor is the return of over 70% of production from both the offensive and defensive ends of the field. This places the program in a good position compared to other ACC teams, such as Pittsburgh and Wake Forest, which rank below the top-100 in terms of returning talent.

The Orange’s campaign for a bowl game begins on September 2 at the JMA Wireless Dome, where they will face Colgate. With their eyes set on a postseason appearance, Syracuse will need to bring their best game to achieve their goal.

In conclusion, the Syracuse Orange football team enters the 2023 season with aspirations of securing a bowl game berth. The team faces challenges in a competitive ACC conference, but with a strong start and key victories throughout the season, they have a real chance of achieving their goal.
