A guard deployed at a four-lane bridge connecting two districts in Bihar on the Ganga river may have lost his life after the bridge collapsed on Sunday, according to an official. The guard, Vibhash Kumar, was working for the SK Singhla construction company at pillar number 11 on the bridge and had just arrived there when the structure collapsed. The local Block Development Officer said the authorities were looking for the guard’s body with the help of the National Disaster Response Force and the State Disaster Response Force. The incident, which was believed to be caused by irregularities and a designer fault, could have been much worse as well over 100 labourers had been working on the bridge until the construction company asked them to leave around midday on Sunday.
