The Federation of Indian Industry (FII) and the Kisan Chamber of Commerce (KCC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate and mutually support their respective initiatives in developing a roadmap for farmer welfare. As part of this partnership, FII will provide advisory services to farmers along with gap analysis for existing government schemes.

The MoU was signed by Suresh Deswal, general secretary of KCC, and Hitender Mehta, Chairman of FII’s International Affairs Committee, in the presence of prominent leaders from both organizations. Sompal Shastri, former Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture, highlighted the importance of the MoU in promoting farmer welfare and giving them the recognition they deserve in the country’s GDP.

Director general of FII, Dr. Deepak Jain, emphasized the significance of farmers and agriculture in the Indian economy. He added that FII, with its industrial connections and technology know-how, is creating benchmarks in shaping the country’s policies. This collaboration provides a platform for farmers to share ideas and network with industry leaders, towards the development of modern agriculture and economic value creation.

Birender Singh, former Union Steel Minister and Patron of FII, stated that FII can provide outreach to farmers for post-harvest management of their produce, and the collaboration will support them in unleashing the potential of India’s food and agriculture sector through policies, trade, and partnerships towards achieving global food and nutrition security and environmental sustainability.

This partnership comes as a missing piece in the country, where a chamber that thinks of farmers as entrepreneurs was absent. The FII-KCC collaboration will help farmers by providing them guidance and creating a meaningful collaboration to mutually support and advance their initiatives. The signing of this MoU marks a significant step towards farmers’ welfare and recognition in the Indian economy.
