Jermell Charlo Is Determined to Face Canelo Alvarez Without Excuses

In a highly anticipated showdown between Jermell Charlo and Canelo Alvarez, Charlo is making it clear that he won’t offer any excuses for the upcoming fight. Despite facing a lengthy layoff and recovering from a hand injury, Charlo is unwavering in his commitment to challenge Alvarez for his IBF, WBA, WBC, and WBO super middleweight titles.

Charlo’s preparations for this fight have been far from smooth. He will enter the ring after a 16-month absence and his first action since breaking two bones in his left hand during a sparring session last Christmas. However, Charlo has assured fans and critics alike that he won’t use these challenges as excuses if the fight doesn’t go his way.

During a press conference in Manhattan, Charlo confidently stated, I don’t give no excuses. I don’t got excuses. Whatever happens, happens. I’m not coming in there to lay down. I’m coming to win. I’m coming to win this fight. I don’t care about all that other stuff. You know what I’m saying? Forget what they say. I don’t care about none of that.

On the other hand, Alvarez has also faced setbacks and surgeries on his left wrist since Charlo’s last fight. Despite these obstacles, both fighters are determined to prove their worth in this highly anticipated match. Alvarez, with an impressive record of 59 wins and only 2 losses, is favored to win, with most sportsbooks giving him a 4-1 advantage over Charlo.

Charlo, who moved up two weight classes for this opportunity, initially had a different opponent in mind. He was supposed to defend his WBO belt against Australia’s Tim Tszyu, but opted for the higher-profile fight against Alvarez due to the significantly higher financial rewards. It’s an ambitious move, considering Charlo has only fought twice since his impressive knockout victory over Jeison Rosario in September 2020.

Despite some critics downplaying his chances, Charlo remains unfazed. When a writer predicted an easy fight for Alvarez, Charlo defiantly responded, F— ’em! They don’t like me. They ain’t never liked me anyways. Them motherf—– never liked me. They write all that crazy sh!t. They talk crazy about me. They talk crazy about him. Like, be proud of what’s going on. Be happy for the fighter, you know? But I don’t care about them.

As the fight draws near, boxing fans eagerly await this clash between two formidable fighters. Charlo’s determination to face Alvarez without excuses sets the stage for an intense and thrilling battle. Only time will tell who will emerge victorious on September 30th at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
