PM Modi’s commitment to developing northeast to boost maritime trade potential: Sarbananda Sonowal

The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal has said that the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains dedicated to the development of India’s northeastern region, as well as its neighboring countries like Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Nepal. Speaking at a meeting of stakeholders in Kolkata, Sonowal stressed that the Act East Policy is essential to this growth and development, and called for greater cooperation between all stakeholders in the maritime sector to unlock its potential. The meeting addressed key issues including trade through National Waterways 1 and 2, enhancing capacities within SMPK (Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata), and collaboration with Myanmar’s Sittwe Port. Sonowal concluded by affirming the government’s commitment to developing the maritime sector and empowering transportation solutions to fulfill the PM’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’.
