The much-awaited southwest monsoon is likely to hit Kerala today, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This means that the state could be experiencing heavy rainfall soon.
The IMD has confirmed that the southwest monsoon has already arrived in some parts of Lakshadweep and the South Arabian sea.
In anticipation of the monsoon, the IMD has cautioned that lightning and gusty winds could occur in isolated areas of Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Kerala and Mahe. Isolated places over Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana, Rayalaseema, and Karnataka could also experience lightning.
The IMD forecast had initially predicted that Kerala was expected to receive heavy rainfall from June 6th. However, the weather bureau has since updated their predictions.
In light of the expected heavy rainfall, a yellow alert has been issued until Monday in the Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts of Kerala.
