Indian President Droupadi Murmu has embarked on a six-day visit to Suriname and Serbia. This marks the president’s first state visit since taking office last year. In Suriname, Murmu will participate in activities commemorating the arrival of Indians in the country and meet the Indian community. The visit also highlights the warm and friendly bilateral relations between India and Suriname. The president is accompanied by Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti and Member of Parliament, Shrimati Rama Devi. In Serbia, Murmu will meet with the country’s President Aleksandar Vucic. Despite rising tensions in Kosovo, India has stated that it does not recognize the declaration of independence and that the political crisis will not affect the president’s visit to Serbia. The Indian diaspora in both countries acts as a living bridge between the nations, according to a Ministry of External Affairs representative.
