SDP’s Reckless Ethnic Campaign in Kogi Sparks Concerns
Concerns have been raised over the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) ethnic campaign in Kogi State, Nigeria. Critics have accused the SDP, particularly its media handlers, of spreading unfounded allegations and spurious lies through social media. This irresponsible behavior has overshadowed the positive campaigns that responsible Kogites were hoping for.
Abu Michael, a spokesperson for a former deputy governor of Kogi State, Yomi Awoniyi, who served under the People’s Democratic Party, condemned the SDP’s media mismanagement. In a statement released on Monday, Abu criticized the SDP’s Muritala Yakubu governorship candidate and his team for their poor communication skills and reliance on fabricating lies to gain public support.
Rather than focusing on issue-based campaigns and providing a blueprint for development, the SDP has opted for a reckless ethnic agenda. Abu highlighted the absence of any other vocabulary in the SDP candidate’s dictionary, other than violence, which has inadvertently damaged his reputation and potentially undermined his chances in the race for office.
Critics of the SDP argue that their campaign may be an attempt to compensate for the candidate’s perceived weaknesses in terms of track record and capacity. Abu urged responsible Kogites to hold the SDP accountable for fanning ethnic discord and only resorting to baseless allegations that reputable media outlets would not touch.
Moreover, Abu pointed out that the SDP lacks an effective image-making communication strategy for their candidate. This raises questions about the party’s ability to present a compelling vision for Kogi State’s future.
The SDP’s reckless campaign strategy has sparked concerns among Kogi State residents who were eager to engage in constructive and issue-based political discourse. Instead, they have been confronted with divisive tactics that do not contribute to the development of the state.
As the governorship race in Kogi State progresses, it remains to be seen how the SDP will respond to these criticisms and whether they will shift their focus towards substantive issues and demonstrate a genuine commitment to the welfare of the state and its people.
In the meantime, concerned Kogites will continue to advocate for a more responsible and inclusive political landscape, devoid of divisive ethnic agendas and baseless allegations. They are hopeful that the upcoming campaigns will provide a platform for meaningful discussions on the key challenges facing Kogi State and the potential solutions that the various candidates can offer.
It is essential for political parties and their candidates to prioritize issue-based campaigns, demonstrate clear plans for development, and ensure effective communication strategies that resonate with the electorate. Only through responsible and constructive engagement can Kogi State move towards progress and prosperity.
