Former NFL running back Alex Collins tragically died at the age of 28 on Sunday in a motorcycle crash in South Florida. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office reported that Collins crashed his motorcycle into the side of an SUV that was making a left turn. The former Baltimore Ravens player was pronounced dead at the scene.
Collins had a promising career ahead of him before the accident. He was known for his talent and spirit both on and off the field. The Ravens released a statement mourning his passing, describing him as a kind and passionate person who brought joy to those around him.
Coach John Harbaugh also paid tribute to Collins, highlighting his uplifting spirit and determination. He was a valuable player for the Ravens, leading the team in rushing yards and touchdowns during his time with them. However, his career faced setbacks, with a foot injury in 2018 and subsequent release in 2019 after being charged with gun and drug violations.
Collins was initially selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL draft. He played one season for them before joining the Ravens in 2017. Despite the challenges he faced, Collins made a significant impact on the field, garnering attention for his touchdown celebrations, which included an Irish jig he learned from his high school coach.
His tragic death is the second loss for the University of Arkansas football program in recent months. Former Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett also passed away in June in a drowning incident while swimming at a beach in Florida.
The accident is currently under investigation, and the driver of the SUV involved in the crash cooperated with authorities. In the wake of Collins’ death, fans, teammates, and the football community as a whole are mourning the loss of a talented player and a beloved individual.
