The Congress party in Bhopal is facing infighting over who should be the chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming polls. The supporters of Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Kamal Nath are angry after Leader of Opposition (LoP) Govind Singh stated that the legislators would elect the chief minister after the polls. Former minister Sajjan Singh Verma says Singh did not become LoP with the support of legislators. Verma claims that Singh, as a senior leader, was made LoP and that people will vote for the Congress in the name of Nath.
Singh responded by saying that the party will contest the election under the leadership of Nath, and there is no doubt in it. He added that the chief minister is elected by legislators after the election. If there is no consensus among the legislators on one person, they hold an election. Nath is the leader of the party, but the decision of who to elect as chief minister will be made by the legislators.
The infighting between Congress leaders shows signs of weakness, and it could negatively impact the party’s chances in the upcoming polls. The party needs to resolve the issue internally and project a united front to gain the trust of voters. The electorate looks for a party that offers a strong and stable leadership, and the current infighting within the Congress could raise doubts in the minds of the voters.
The Congress party must put its internal affairs in order to project an image of unity to the voters and to present a strong and stable leadership for the state. The party must remember that the upcoming polls are important for them, and any internal squabbles should be resolved quickly. If the party can put forth a united front, they could be successful in winning over the voters and attaining the government in the upcoming polls.
