Assam Implements New Education Policy for Higher Institutes within the State

The Assam government has formally implemented the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in higher educational institutions across the state. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma presided over a ceremonial launch at Gauhati University and praised the initiative as a transformative education policy for the country’s future. The NEP 2020 aims to introduce large-scale transformative reforms in the school and higher education sectors based on the shortcomings of previous education policies. It is the most comprehensive education policy to date and focuses on imparting multi-disciplinary education to students in a holistic and enabling environment. Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu and Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University Prof. Pratap Jyoti Handique also attended the ceremony. The Assam government has been taking committed steps towards implementing the policy since its inception.
