Two narcotics smugglers have been arrested by the Punjab Police in Jalalabad, Punjab, India. The police have confiscated over 9 kg of heroin under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) and registered an FIR against the smugglers to investigate further and arrest any other persons involved in the drug supply chain. Punjab’s Director general of police official twitter handle tweeted that the police acted quickly on undisclosed information to make the arrests. The investigation is ongoing and they aim to break the drug supply chain.
Meanwhile, a joint operation of the Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police, recovered a sizeable consignment of narcotics dropped by Pakistani drones on the outskirts of Amritsar, India. The security teams heard the drones’ buzzing sound and the dropping of the consignment in the farming fields of Rai village. During their search, the troops found five packets of suspected narcotics and an iron ring attached to the consignment, with the total weight of 5.5 kg.
The BSF stated in a release that this was another nefarious attempt by Pakistan to smuggle contrabands, and it’s been foiled due to joint efforts and timely action by both forces. The police and other authorities have long been working to curb the narcotics trade in India, which has been a significant issue.
