A defamation case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over remarks he made against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has had the complainant’s statement recorded by a court in Maharashtra’s Thane district. Rajesh Kunte accused Gandhi of tarnishing the RSS’ image by linking it to the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi in speeches made by the congress leader in 2014. Charges of defamation under Indian Penal Code sections 499 and 500 had been framed against Gandhi in June 2018, and he had been granted exemption from appearing in court until Saturday’s hearing. Another hearing is scheduled for July 1.
