Bhubaneswar’s railway agency announced the cancellation of 12 trains and the diversion of four trains following an accident that occurred at Bahanaga Railway Station in Balasore on Friday. Seven train lines were closed on June 3, while three additional trains were canceled, and four train lines were redirected as an emergency measure following the deadly accident.
According to reports, the Kanyakumari – Dibrugarh Vivek Express, the Puri-Rishikesh Kalinga Utkal Express, the Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Express, and the Puri-Kamakhya Express were redirected following the tragic event. The incident resulted in the cancellation of various trains from the Kharagpur to Jajpur Keonjhar Express and the Chennai-Howrah Superfast Mail.
A vast number of stranded passengers were left without transportation or means to reach their destinations, drawing outrage from local citizens. Unscrupulous private bus operators took advantage of the situation, charging up to three times the standard fare. The state government came forward to intervene, offering aid to the stranded passengers and promising to take strict action against bus operators found to be taking advantage of the situation.
The accident caused delays and cancellations that shook the passenger rail system operating through the area. However, the railway authorities have been working tirelessly to prevent further disruptions and have offered apologies for the inconvenience caused to passengers. The affected passengers were given food and assured of continued support throughout the ordeal.
