Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh has announced that Kishtwar, a district in Jammu and Kashmir, will become North India’s major power hub generating approximately 6,000 MW of power. The announcement came after Dr. Singh held a meeting with various officials to review the progress of hydroelectric power projects in the Kishtwar and Doda districts. He said that the surplus power from Kishtwar will not only be used in other parts of the UT but could also be availed by other states. Dr. Singh assured 100% reservation for locals in unskilled jobs for these projects and promised to give preference to local talent in skilled manpower requirements. He lamented that the rich natural resources of Chenab were not exploited by the previous governments that ruled J&K for 60-65 years.
