Arizona Diamondbacks Make Pitching Moves: Prospect Bryce Jarvis Joins Bullpen, Starter Ryne Nelson Sent to Triple-A

The Arizona Diamondbacks made some significant moves to their pitching staff on Sunday, as they sent down starter Ryne Nelson to Triple-A and called up top prospect Bryce Jarvis. This roster shakeup is aimed at bolstering the bullpen and providing immediate help to the team.

Jarvis, who was the Diamondbacks’ first-round pick in the 2020 draft, will begin his major league career in the bullpen. He recently made the transition from being a starter to a reliever in order to contribute more effectively at the major league level. With the addition of Jarvis to the bullpen, the Diamondbacks now have nine relievers outside of Slade Cecconi to rely on for a bullpen game.

On the other hand, the Diamondbacks find themselves short of starting pitchers with Nelson being sent down. The rotation currently consists of Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, Brandon Pfaadt, and Cecconi, who made a relief appearance on Friday. Manager Torey Lovullo stated that they are still finalizing their strategy for the rotation and will be creative in managing their pitching options.

It was announced that Kelly will start on Monday against the Colorado Rockies, with two TBA placeholders following him in the rotation. This indicates that the Diamondbacks still need to figure out their starting pitching options moving forward.

Lovullo expressed that Nelson will likely return to the major leagues later this season, emphasizing the importance of him being at his best. Nelson had a strong stretch from mid-June until mid-July but struggled in his recent starts, particularly with putting away hitters using his secondary pitches.

Nelson acknowledged his disappointments and recognized the need for improvement in finishing off hitters with two strikes. He plans to work on his weaknesses and regain his form in Triple-A.

On the other hand, Bryce Jarvis is excited about the opportunity to contribute to the team out of the bullpen. While his ultimate goal is to be a starter, he understands the importance of providing immediate help in any way he can. Jarvis had a successful collegiate career at Duke University, but his transition to professional baseball has not been without challenges. However, he has shown progress in the minors and is eager to continue his development in the major leagues.

Overall, the Diamondbacks’ pitching moves aim to strengthen their bullpen with the addition of Bryce Jarvis while figuring out the best rotation options. It remains to be seen how these changes will affect the team’s performance, but Manager Torey Lovullo is confident that they will have a strategy in place to compete and win. Arizona fans will be eagerly watching to see how Jarvis performs in his major league debut and how the team adapts to these pitching adjustments.
