He emphasized the need to stop the violence immediately and called for unity. Gandhi also emphasized his own shock at the severity of the situation, saying he has never witnessed anything like it in his political career.
Gandhi stressed the importance of keeping everyone together as a family, saying it feels as though a person has been torn into two pieces and an entire state has been torn apart. He highlighted the ongoing violence, rape, and killing in Manipur and expressed particular concern for two women he met during his visit who had experienced violence.
Gandhi warned about the dangers of using politics based on division, hatred, and anger in a state, referring to Manipur as a lesson in what can happen as a result. He called for an end to the violence and urged for immediate action to address the situation.
While in Kerala, Gandhi laid the foundation stone for the Community Disability Management Center, a facility aiming to provide early intervention, treatment, and rehabilitation for children. The center will offer various therapies, including psychotherapy, behavioral therapy, physiotherapy, and speech education. Gandhi pledged a contribution of Rs 55 lakh from his MP fund towards the facility.
The Congress leader’s comments come at a time when Manipur is grappling with a surge in violent incidents. The situation has drawn attention to the need for immediate action to quell the violence and restore peace in the state. Gandhi’s call for unity and an end to divisive politics serves as a reminder of the importance of fostering harmony and understanding within communities. As Manipur seeks to heal from the wounds caused by violence, it is crucial for leaders to prioritize the well-being and safety of the people. Only through concerted efforts and a united front can the state move towards a brighter and more peaceful future.
