West Rowan Football Continues Streak of Non-Losing Seasons, Eyes Conference Championship

MOUNT ULLA — West Rowan Football has established an impressive record of consecutive non-losing seasons since 1998. Despite not capturing a conference championship in recent years, the West Rowan Falcons remain a consistent contender in the South Piedmont Conference. Head coach Louis Kraft is optimistic about the upcoming season, with a roster of talented players and a desire to bring back the glory days of championships and winning streaks.

In the 2022 season, West Rowan achieved a commendable 9-3 record, including notable victories against Salisbury and Franklin in the playoffs. However, the team acknowledges that the outcomes of some games could have easily swung the other way. This year, the Falcons believe they have the potential to be even stronger, as they anticipate improvements at every position on the field.

The offensive line, led by experienced players like center Blake Rogers and guard Tyler Cline, will provide protection for sophomore quarterback Brant Graham. Graham, a multi-talented athlete, has already made a splash playing for the jayvee team and is expected to become a standout player over the next three seasons. With an explosive arm, Graham aims to make big plays down the field, while also relying on the skill and versatility of receivers like Evan Kennedy, Adrian Stockton, and Kaden Feaster.

West Rowan’s offense was a force to be reckoned with in the previous season, averaging 33.4 points per game. Running back Landon Jacobs and receiver Kennedy delivered impressive performances, but this year, junior Kennedy will take center stage as a dynamic playmaker. After recovering from knee surgery, Kennedy has added muscle without sacrificing speed, making him a challenging player for opponents to game-plan against. His ability to line up at various positions will create problems for opposing defenses, potentially earning him recognition in end-of-season accolades.

Defensively, the Falcons are poised to be strong, as they boast a talented lineup. Defensive ends Hunter Miller and Kevin Toomer bring experience and determination to the team, consistently applying pressure and seeking sacks. The interior defensive line will rely on players like Dayvion McHenry, Diontaye Montgomery, and Tallon Blackwell to disrupt opposing offenses and stifle the run.

Linebackers Cameron Martin and Christian Addison will contribute their skill and knowledge of the game, with Martin being a valuable addition as a transfer from Mooresville. In the defensive secondary, safety Aubree Robinson leads the way, providing leadership in his fourth year in a crucial role. Kendrick Cornelius, Tyrin Little, and Israel Ford complete the starting defensive backfield, a group known for their tackling ability and versatility.

With a solid starting lineup on defense, West Rowan is focused on building depth to withstand any potential injuries that may arise. The coaching staff is confident in the team’s potential and believes they can field one of the best defensive units in recent memory with the right reinforcements.

In the kicking game, Andrew Mead and Carter Durant are expected to handle placekicking duties, while Durant and Alex Robinette may take on punting responsibilities. Nick Loeblein will contribute as the long snapper, ensuring the special teams unit is well-equipped for success.

As the Falcons prepare for the season, they face a challenging schedule during the non-conference portion of their games. Davie, Mooresville, and A.L. Brown are all highly competitive teams, making for intense matchups that will test West Rowan’s abilities on both sides of the ball. However, the Falcons are determined to continue their streak of non-losing seasons and make a strong push for the conference championship.

As the West Rowan Football program seeks to recapture the glory days of championships and winning streaks, their consistent contender status and admirable track record of non-losing seasons position them as a force to be reckoned with in the South Piedmont Conference. With a talented roster, an experienced coaching staff, and a desire to reclaim the conference title, the Falcons are set to make their mark on the upcoming football season.
