Actress Ashley Judd is celebrating her remarkable recovery after shattering her leg in the Democratic Republic of the Congo two and a half years ago. The 55-year-old shared photos on social media of her recent hiking trip to the Alps in Switzerland, showcasing her progress since the devastating accident.
In February 2021, Judd suffered a horrific injury when she tripped over a fallen tree while walking through a rainforest in the African country. The accident resulted in multiple fractures in her right leg, a paralyzed foot, and the possibility of amputation. Judd faced significant physical challenges, including hemorrhaging, but she has made incredible strides in her recovery.
Judd expressed gratitude towards the Congolese people who saved her and the medical professionals who played a vital role in her journey towards healing. She wrote, We came far up these Alps, for the sheer joy of it, confidently. Ongoing gratitude of profound proportions to the Congolese who saved me, and the surgeons, neurologist, and physical therapist who set me up for this stunning recovery.
The actress posted a slideshow of breathtaking images from her trip, including shots of the beautiful blue sky, a picturesque waterfall, a butterfly, and stunning views of the mountain range. One picture captured Judd from behind as she walked along a trail with trekking poles, radiating happiness and determination. Another photo showed her standing in front of a majestic waterfall, beaming with joy. She was also pictured sitting in front of a traditional alpine stone cabin.
Judd has previously spoken about the difficult journey she underwent after her accident, including a grueling 55-hour transportation to a hospital and multiple surgeries. She underwent intense physical therapy for months to regain her ability to walk.
Despite the challenges, Judd has maintained a positive outlook and a deep appreciation for her progress. In January 2022, she completed a 25-mile hike to commemorate the 11-month anniversary of her accident.
Last October, Judd revealed that she had suffered another leg injury, which she attributed to grief-associated clumsiness following the death of her mother. The actress found her mother, country music star Naomi Judd, at her Tennessee home after she died by suicide in April 2022. Judd described her recent leg injury as a freak accident that allowed her to pause and grieve.
