At least 50 people have been killed and more than 150 injured in a railway accident in India’s Odisha state. Three to four coaches of the Yashwantpur Howrah Superfast Express train derailed and fell onto the opposite track, where they were hit by the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express train, causing further derailment, according to officials. The cause of the accident is unclear. India’s Railway Minister Ashwani Vaishnaw has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh ($14,000) for the families of those killed in the incident, with additional payments being given to those injured.
