Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that Yoga Week will be observed from June 15 to June 21. Highlighting the importance of yoga, which he described as a priceless gift from Indian wisdom to humanity, Yogi encouraged group yoga practice programmes to be organised at district headquarters during Yoga Week, while also promoting the use of public parks for morning yoga from 6 am to 8 am.
The Chief Minister emphasised the need for awareness-raising activities related to Yoga, including seminars and workshops at universities, colleges, and schools. He also suggested that a range of competitions be held, from speech and essay competitions to poster and rangoli creation. Disseminating video links outlining the Common Yoga Protocol alongside targeted schemes aimed at greater public participation, like associating voluntary organisations, health and wellness centres, and religious and social groups, should be considered.
Yogi believes all 762 urban bodies and 58,000 gramin panchayats should be involved and made aware of the main event on June 21. Historical, cultural, and other significant areas should be marked for yoga, and thorough cleanliness drives should be conducted by local educational institutions. Additionally, distribution of fruits and sweets to children is recommended. To inspire greater participation and involvement, all police lines and PAC battalions should be linked to the main event of Yoga Day, with constant police patrolling to ensure the security of attendees.
