Nawaz Sharif has been nominated as the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate for the position of Prime Minister, following the end of his disqualification. The decision was made during a press briefing at the Prime Minister’s House, where PML-N chief Shehbaz Sharif announced that Nawaz Sharif had been cleared of any disqualification due to the amendments made to the Election Act.

Shehbaz Sharif, who is Nawaz Sharif’s younger brother and the PML-N party President, emphasized that the final decision on the date of the general elections lies with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). However, he stated that his party is eager to hold the polls as soon as possible.

During the press briefing, PML-N leader Ishaq Dar noted that Nawaz Sharif’s disqualification period had ended on July 26. Shehbaz Sharif had previously mentioned in an interview that his brother would be returning to Pakistan from London in September to face his pending court cases.

Nawaz Sharif, who was convicted in graft cases before the 2018 general elections, had traveled to London for medical treatment in 2019 and has been residing there since then. However, his recent visit to Dubai sparked speculation about his potential return to Pakistan.

If the PML-N emerges victorious in the upcoming elections, Nawaz Sharif will be the Prime Minister for the fourth time, as stated by the former premier himself.

This development marks a significant turning point for Nawaz Sharif and the PML-N, as the party prepares to campaign for the elections and potentially secure another term in power. The nomination of Nawaz Sharif as the party’s prime ministerial candidate reflects the confidence and trust placed in him by the PML-N leadership.

It remains to be seen when the general elections will take place, as the Election Commission of Pakistan will determine the exact date. Nonetheless, the PML-N is eager to expedite the process and move forward with their plans.

As the political landscape in Pakistan continues to evolve, the return of Nawaz Sharif and his potential re-election as Prime Minister could have far-reaching implications for the country’s future. The upcoming elections will undoubtedly be closely watched by both domestic and international observers, as they will shape Pakistan’s political trajectory in the years to come.
