The Madhya Pradesh government has derecognised the registration of Ganga Jamuna Higher Secondary School in Damoh following a hijab controversy. An order was issued by the district education department stating that the decision was based on the inspection findings of several flaws such as no potable water and insufficient bathrooms for girl students. The controversy arose when the school pasted a poster to congratulate board exam toppers, but right-wing outfits alleged that non-Muslim girl students were forced to wear hijabs as seen in pictures. Damoh District Collector Mayank Agrawal established a probe, and as a result, the school has lost its registration. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan made it clear that New Education Policy must be followed by any school operating in MP and that any school which teaches anything not in line with the policy will not be tolerated.
