A khap mahapanchayat in Kurukshetra has called for the arrest of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the outgoing Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP, who has been accused of sexually harassing female wrestlers. The group has given the government until June 9 to take action on its demands. If the government fails to do so, the protesters plan to intensify their campaign, with panchayats planned across the country and a return to Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Farmer outfits have shown solidarity by holding khap mahapanchayats in Uttar Pradesh and a series of protests in Punjab and Haryana. The protesters also discussed next steps in their campaign during the Kurukshetra mahapanchayat.
