The Delhi Metro has begun a tunnelling drive using a TBM, or tunnel boring machine, named โBhoomiโ along an upcoming corridor as part of the โPhase IVโ project. The machine was launched at the Derawal Nagar metro station site on โLine 8.โ The length of the tunnel is approximately 3 kilometres, with tunnelling at depths of up to 25.9 metres in places such as the Najafgarh Drain. The Delhi Metro has equipped all its TBMs with the BEAM (Bore Tunneling Electrical Ahead Monitoring) System in this phase, which allows it to predict geological strata up to 20 metres ahead and predict unexpected encounters with filled wells, cavities, and aquifers. In total, 28 km of new underground corridors will be constructed under the project.
